work in progress

This is the tower. it's a work in progress, but Hallie can finally be on the top bunk! :) Mike made stairs out of a cabinet and a bookshelf on its side. The plan is for a tree on the end (so Adria can't climb up the wrong side of the bed), and tower walls at the top to make it a bit safer for play time. At the first landing above the cabinet there will be a nice rug, and some pillows for a quiet time reading spot. The walls will be painted green, brown and sky blue with some sort of forest mural Mike has a plan for in his head, and our talented painter friend offered to help :)

Hallie has been calling me 'mama queen' and we've been playing knights. The other night she said, "Mama queen, I'm a Queen Knight, and my baby teddy is missing! We HAVE TO GO FIND HER!" So we went on a "quest" through the labyrinth (Our garden) to find the teddy, which she had left in her car seat. I made her a sword out of a wire hanger and she proceeded to fight off the giants that were hiding in the prickle bushes.

She has quite the imagination!

holy crap this still exists...

I can't figure out why it used to be so easy for me to play and write music. I can't do it anymore. Songs just don't flow from me like they used to. But my old music is still apparently around. I did not know this. So most of the songs on radio3 are forgotten songs I don't even remember writing.

....I haven't touched this since I was 18....

We are finally moved onto the(very late) garden {edited}

I've been planning my garden since January. And it's been one thing after another preventing me from planting. So now, we have moved into my childhood home, with my grandmother and sister, and are officially setting up our little homestead!

The garden is in progress. I'm using permaculture methods to create a maze in the back yard. The pictures will be coming camera is dead and I don't have a charger for it, so that will have to wait for a little while, but they are coming for sure!

Things still to do:

  • finish garden; dig sod and get a few loads of manure for our beds in the hugelkutur maze, clear herb garden, order more seeds, design plant layout, plant seeds.
  • sew a tick and get hay bales for our mattress(got the original idea {here} a couple years ago
  • plant hazelnut trees.
  • plant my poor raspberry canes that have been sitting in their pathetic little pots on the porch for weeks :(
  • Email *again* about angora rabbits. We're planning a trip to Victoria in July, so we're hoping to be able to pick a couple up by then.
  • build a mini green house, buy barley seed and reusable containers and start growing sprouted fodder for out rabbits and chickens. You can find more info about that {here}
  • build a new compost bin
  • build a chicken coop.
  • get chickens
  • build fire pit
  • get worm farm prepared
  • source basket willows and mushroom spawn(&order spawn) for next spring
  • fix fence before we get Mike's sisters dog in the summer
  • apply for school and find out about student loans for my Herbalist course. Apply for permaculture course in Roberts Creek
  • Help mike organize his shop
  • Oh yeah! and plan and organize Hallies freaking birthday party!!!!
I have to get felt and make masks, buy seeds and pots and paint for activity, and make a grocery list and get everything I need ready for the cake and treats. And get invitations made and sent out! Her birthday is the 8th of June. I am hoping her party will fall on the 9th.

ugh.. okay so off to work I go!

this morning

So we were sitting outside drinking our coffee and watching the girls play when I spotted this guy up in his tree. I decided to see how good my camera's zoom was. Turns out its pretty good.

I see this eagle flying around here all the time, and he is always up in that tree. (The dark evergreen off in the background of the first picture) I'm glad I snapped a few shots before we moved :)
